Transition training

Kona was this weekend, and it's by far my favorite race weekend to stalk... uh "track" my fellow bloggers. Some people are inspired by following such an amazing accomplishment. Not me. Oh no, I'm not nearly that classy. I'm jealous. Straight up jealous of people who get to run, people in Hawaii, people who get to race, and most of all, people who get to sleep! (Oops, sorry. That's a complaint for another board.)

But my time is spent with something way better these days. I'll get back to running soon, and I'll be an Ironman in the next couple years. There's no way I'm missing a second of our babies being babies right now. While hardcore running/biking/swimming isn't in the cards this fall, there is one thing I CAN work on. Transitions!

The boys hate being in their car seat when not in a moving car, and they hate being in the BOB when it's not moving. So basically, I have about 2 minutes from the time the car stops to when we start walking before there's screaming.

It goes like this:

  • Take both car seats in the house and set in entry way
  • Fling heels off by the door
  • Sprint into closet to tear off work clothes
  • Frantically dig for shorts, sports bra, shirt, socks
  • Sprint into bathroom for rubber band/bobby pin
  • Continue yelling, "mommy's almost ready! mommy's almost ready!" super cheery
  • Make ponytail while stuffing feet into running shoes
  • Heave BOB down from garage hooks
  • Load the closest-to-screaming baby
  • Nuk immediately
  • Load other baby
  • Start speed walking and tie shoes sometime down the road

You barely made it this time, lady. Barely.

With this kind of training, I'll be unstoppable in T1 and T2 next year!

Otherwise, the boys are doing fantastic. They turned 3 months over the weekend and continue to grow cuter, stronger, smarter, and happier each day. Sam's almost 12lbs and Luke's 10.

And in case you wanted a glimpse into their personalities, this is our children rolled up into one picture. Sam is super zen and unfazed by anything, while Luke is a hyper, little, buzzing attention whore. I'll let you guess which one takes after me and which one takes after The Husband. :o)

Race pic and other updates

Thanks for all the kind words about my post-baby half marathon. My race bib and medal went straight into the boys' baby box. Along the way I read quite a few doom and gloom stories about pregnancy and recovery, but running before, during and after babies (after multiple babies!) (after c-section babies!) absolutely can be done if you want to do it. :o)

And just to tie a bow on the whole experience, here's the one race picture. Am I the only one who can't pin their race bib on straight? They always seem to sit a little wonky.

In other relevant blogger news, I'm officially back to work. While this sucks for me and my mommy guilt, it's very good news for you, my loyal followers. It now means I can come crawling back to your blogs and comment like the good little company employee I am. You know, assuming you didn't already kick me to the curb.

This also means that my running has been dwindled down to weekends only. The boys are only awake for a few hours after work, and I can't fit it all in quite yet. I may run in the mornings eventually, but since they don't quite sleep through the night, I'm not wasting a second of sleep.

Guess I'll have to find something else to babble about. Good thing we have these cutie boys and a million billion pictures.
They're 12 weeks and growing and smiling like crazy!
