Mama's got a new pair of shoes

When people ask me how to get into running, I always tell them to go purchase new shoes or cute running outfit. Something they love and will only wear while running. That way they'll have to go so they don't waste their money. And really, who doesn't love wearing cute new things?

Well, my "window of acceptable excuses for not regularly running" is drawing to a close at the end of November. I'm in desperate need of some motivation. Motivation to go in the morning when it's so early, so dark, and so very very cold. I took my own advice and pulled the trigger on some shinny new shoes.

They're Pearl Izumi Cruises, but who cares. It's just an excuse to attention whore our cute kids!

I went to our one and only local running store to give them another chance to sell me shoes. Every time I've gone, I've been disappointed to leave with no shoes. I walk in with a purse full of money and say, "I need new shoes. I'm not loyal to any brand. Here's my running specifics. What to you have?" I should be the easiest sale, and yet, they're often less than helpful and I end up ordering something online.

I decided to give them one last chance on Friday during my lunch hour. It was my birthday last week, and I had some money burning a hole in my pocket.

-Walk in and get greeted by some early 20 something- NEGATIVE (those have been the least helpful in my experience.)

-He seems to ask the right questions and have the right answers- POSITIVE

-They have the Pearl Izumis I picked out online in my size- POSITIVE

-But I know I can get them a few dollars cheaper online- NEGATIVE

-But if I get them here, I can run with them this weekend- POSITIVE

-"Wow, I can't believe you just had twins."- SOLD!!!

See, I told you I was an easy sell.

Daylight savings blows

Daylight savings was a minor inconvenience to me before, but it makes a Monday really rough when you have babies. FYI: they don't care about daylight savings. Even the excited OMG! IT'S MOMMMMMY!!! kicking and laughing when you walk in the nursery is slightly less adorable at 5:40 in the morning. (Slightly. It's still the greatest thing in the whole world.)

I had big morning running plans last Friday before I had to get up three times during the night because someone got a limb stuck in the crib. A bumper was purchased the next day.
Then I naively thought I could wear them out on Sunday to encourage sleeping in today and maybe squeeze in a run. Ha. Not so much. I did go twice this weekend, so I suppose I can hold out a little longer for the illusive mid-week run.

Because the weather was so perfect, we packed up the BOB and took our first trip to the park. There's a clear window on the top of each seat, and looking down, this was pretty much my view the whole walk.

I almost feel bad that they're missing out on seeing the world in front of them because they're trying to stare behind at the sound of my voice. Then I realize my stories about the crazy people who already put up their Christmas light are pretty damn entertaining. And who doesn't want to be considered more interesting than the world?

We finally made it to the park for the first time on swings. It was a mixed bag. Sam just chillaxed while Luke flew like Superman and tried to eat the handle. No one screamed their face off, so I consider that a resounding success with anything new.

I did get a little preview of the, "but I don't want to go home" pout. It still needs perfecting, but he's got a great foundation.

Halloween with babies

Halloween with babies is probably one of the top reasons to have babies in the first place. Especially for moms of boys. We don't get to play dress-up very often, so it's all out on a holiday like this.

The morning started off with matching Avenged Sevenfold onesies, compliments of The Husband. They make deathbats looks so cute. Apparently I have terrible taste in music, so he's in charge of teaching our children to appreciate decent bands.

The afternoon was finally costume time! We thought about doing pumpkins, puppies, or a variety of other normal baby costumes. Then we changed our minds and opted for South Park characters.
Meet Stan Marsh and Eric Cartman!

Our chubbier baby was the perfect Cartman.

See? Hell ya he wants Cheesy Poofs.

This little peanut pretty much just ate his mittens the whole time.

And naturally, I had to be Cartman's mom. Personally, I found it hilarious that of all the skanky costumes I wore in college and beyond, this one is technically the skankiest of them all. Mother of the Year!

In running news, I'm pretty much Weekend Warrior status only. I'd love to run more, but the schedule isn't quite there yet. Thankfully, just feeding these boys burns a ton of calories, so at least I'm avoiding that puffy, full feeling I ususally get when I don't run often.

We've got one baby sleeping through the night and another who does from time to time. Once I'm confident no one will wake up at 4:00 thinking they're hungry, I plan to start running in the morning. Of course, it'll probably be about the time the temperature is -452 degrees. Got to love Nebraska winters.

I can't wait until spring to take these little guys running with me!
